I paint inside and out, deal with the damp and leaks that ruin paintwork, and take real pride in a neat finish without charging you the world.

Interior painting
Good painting is mostly preparation. Before a tin is opened I move or cover your furniture, protect the floors, fill cracks and holes, and sand the surface so the new paint holds. Then I paint neatly, cut clean lines along ceilings and frames, and leave the room tidy enough to use the same day the job is finished.
Exterior painting
Outside walls in the Helderberg take a beating. Homes in Strand and Gordon's Bay get salt air off False Bay, and the summer south-easter drives sun, sand and wind at every wall that faces it. I prepare exterior surfaces properly, repair cracked plaster and rotten timber first, and use paint made for the conditions so the job lasts.
Waterproofing and damp
Bubbling paint, dark patches on a wall and stains on a ceiling all mean water is getting in somewhere. Painting over them only hides the problem until the next rain. I find where the water is coming from, seal it, let the area dry out and then repair and repaint it. The best time to waterproof is before the Cape winter rain arrives, so book early if you spotted trouble last winter.

Paint problems often start with something else: a leaking pipe, a damaged ceiling board or a cracked tile. Because I also do plumbing, ceiling repairs and tiling, I can fix the cause and the finish in one job, on one quote.

Do you charge for a quote?
No. I come out, look at the job and give you a written quote free of charge, with no obligation to go ahead.
Will you paint just one room?
Yes. One room, one wall or one ceiling is fine. No job is too small.
Do you fix cracks and damp before you paint?
Yes. Cracks, holes and damp patches are repaired first, because paint over a problem doesn't last.
How long will the job take?
It depends on the size of the job and the preparation needed. Your written quote includes the time I expect it to take.
When should I waterproof?
Before the winter rain. Late summer and autumn give the best conditions for the work to dry and cure.
